Examiner Recruitment Campaign 2023 - Learn Earn Return

The State Examinations Commission is responsible for the development, assessment, accreditation and certification of the second-level examinations of the Irish state: the Junior Cycle and the Leaving Certificate. The State Examinations Commission is a non-departmental public body under the aegis of the Department of Education.

We are relaunching our Recruitment Campaign for the 2023 examinations in order to further highlight the personal and professional benefits of becoming an examiner with the State Examinations Commission (SEC).  The theme of our new campaign is;

  • Learn
  • Earn
  • Return

As we approach the Easter holiday period, we are asking you, in your leadership role, to arrange for every teacher in your area of influence to get this email and for you to encourage them to apply to mark the 2023 examinations.  Teachers are the lifeblood of the national examinations system and we rely on their involvement in the marking of the examinations so that we can deliver the annual state examinations service for the benefit of individual students, the education system and society in general.

The cornerstone of our 2023 Recruitment Campaign is our new contract staff website https://secexaminer.ie which is now live.  The information and resources available on the site will allow teachers to access information about working as an examiner - including what they can expect to earn; how the online marking system operates; as well as how the experience can enhance their teaching skills and further their career opportunities. This brand new digital facility allows potential new examiners to submit an expression of interest in becoming an examiner for this year and to apply for the role.

Our focus at this time is on recruitment of teachers as examiners, but in time https://secexaminer.ie,  will become a one stop shop for all SEC contract staff business – written examiners, oral examiners, practical examiners and superintendents –not just in relation to recruitment but in all aspects of their work.

For further information on incentives and payment, the new website can be accessed as follows;

Directly on https://secexaminer.ie/ or via www.examinations.ie or Visit https://secexaminer.ie to register your interest.

As a leader in education, we greatly appreciate your ongoing help in promoting the importance of this work to teachers in your area of influence.   We firmly believe that engagement in examining roles with the SEC benefits not only the individual teachers but the whole school community.

With your assistance we hope to be able to attract examiners in the numbers needed for the delivery of this essential service.

Yours sincerely,

Andrea Feeney
