In My Shoes Charity

Irish charity ‘In My Shoes’ are running a nationwide campaign this April, shipping pre-loved shoes from families in Ireland to needy township children in Southern Africa www.inmyshoescharity.org

We need your help.

For two weeks in 2020, In My Shoes worked and engaged with primary schools across Ireland on a trial campaign to collect pre-loved shoes and send them to less well-off children in Southern Africa. The aim was simple, and the result was astounding; 15,000 pairs of Irish shoes collected in just a few weeks, now living a second-life on 15,000 pairs of very grateful children’s feet in Southern Africa. Here, a pair of shoes makes the difference between getting an education and having none.

Following our pilot - and two years later (thanks to Covid!) - we are back for round two. The aim is again simple, but our sights are a lot bigger. On the 17th of April we are going fully nationwide into every national school in Ireland - and we could really appreciate your help and support engaging with the 3,500 primary schools across the country.

We think pictures really do speak a thousand words, so please check out the videos below to understand our In My Shoes Campaign.  We would like your help to introduce our campaign to your school network’s and your support in having a positive impact on these children’s lives and on your own school communities:

•             This 5 mins video In My Shoes – “Expanding Footprints” sets out the background, objectives, and future plans for the charity:  https://youtu.be/sclgs57EsVU

•             This even shorter video “Sharing Footprints” highlights what Irish school children and teachers got out of taking part in the previous campaign. Hear children and their teachers talk about focusing on the virtues of giving, gratitude, and learning about the lives of other kids a world away:    https://youtu.be/pAgNGfHkagA

During the campaign we also have a complete 2-week lesson plan available on our website www.inmyshoescharity.org which schools and individual teachers can download and use in conjunction with the running of the campaign.

Targeting all areas of the curriculum, it channels the United Nations SDG’s as well as Unicef’s Rights Respecting School ethos; ‘Children become active and involved in school life and the wider world’ – It’s a great way to help schools tackle big issues facing the world today, directly and positively. Children empowered by their own acts of kindness.

Along with our charity partner UPS, we will collect all the donated shoes from your school and start preparing them for the trip to Africa. You and your schools have done your part, and you can now sit back and follow our social media updates on the journey of their donations.

Many thanks for taking the time to learn about our charity and we look forward to your support
