Primary Schools Athletics Coaching Initiative 2020
Format
Claremorris Athletic and Sports Club Ltd along with AXSOM Sports Ltd in conjunction with Mayo Sports Partnership invite primary schools in the locality to send a group of approx. 30 children, to travel to their indoor facilities for 60-minute coaching sessions. Some schools may send individual classes for a session and other schools may group classes depending on school numbers or other requirements. The programme is an all-inclusive programme, so all children are welcome, of all abilities. Schools are requested to provide their own transport to and from the coaching session. The children should come dressed for physical activity and have a packed lunch and a drink.
Places are limited, and schools are allocated their times on a first come first served basis.
Booking can be done on the link included here through AXSOM Sports. The times available are blocked out clearly for schools to see and is set up to take bookings 60 days in advance giving schools the ability to check what days are available and make a booking.

Duration of programme and dates
Start Date November 1st
Time: The sessions will be held Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11.15am to 12.15pm
Coaching Session Content: The session will focus on the fundamentals of athletics and will be broadly in line with the primary school PE curriculum. It will contain an introduction to running, jumping and throwing and will focus on track & field events such as the sprints, hurdles, middle distance, high jump, long jump and shot putt. All activities will be appropriate for children of primary school age and stage of development.
Venue: Coaching sessions will take place at Claremorris Athletic and Sports Club Ltd Facilities (i.e. both indoor and outdoor including high jump mats, long jump pit, shot putt circle, hurdles, 400m Mondo surface running track, etc)
Transport: Transport to and from the coaching sessions must be arranged and paid for by the primary school.
Cost: The cost of the programme is €2 per child (note the increase) payable to the coach on the day.
Help: The coaches are happy to coach and take care of the group; however, help and assistance from teachers, SNAs and Classroom Assistants would be very much appreciated also during the sessions.
Insurance: It will be up to each participating school to have adequate insurance in place to cover their participation in this programme.
