Dr Maria Dervan will present online an overview of both formal and informal assessments that support the design and implementation of a mathematics programme for students experiencing difficulties in this area.
Dr Maria Dervan is a qualified primary school teacher and has experience working as a mainstream teacher, special education teacher and special class teacher. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Special Education and a Masters in Special Education. She subsequently completed a PhD under the supervision of Dr. Margaret Egan and Professor Emer Ring and is now an Assistant Professor lecturing in the Department of Educational Psychology, Inclusive and Special Education in Mary Immaculate College. She has won many awards for her research to date including a bursary from the Irish National Teachers Organisation and the Teaching Council funding award under the John Coolahan Framework. She has presented and had her research published nationally and internationally. She has a keen interest in special education for maths, language development, Autism Spectrum Difference (ASD), inclusion and using evidence-based practices in teaching which has been the focus of her research to date.
The group will have an opportunity to discuss the above and other topics after the guest speaker departs.
